Suture Ammonite Fossil Pendant Necklace | Oak Leaf Pattern | Brown Fossil Jewelry | Handmade Sterling Silver on 18" Sterling Chain

$200.00

Oak leaves, written in stone millions of years ago.

At first glance you’d swear this was a pressed leaf, not a fossil. Across the surface of this suture ammonite, delicate branching lines scallop and curl into a pattern that looks just like oak leaves, in warm shades of brown. Those lines are the sutures, the fine edges where the chamber walls of an ancient sea creature once met its shell. Time turned them to stone and left them for us to find.

I chose this fossil for its color and its leaf-like patterning, then set it by hand in sterling silver. Nothing is cast and nothing is premade. It hangs on an 18" sterling silver chain and sits comfortably at the collarbone. Because every fossil formed in its own way, no two suture ammonites are alike, and the one in the photos is the one you will receive.

It is a natural fit for the season, lovely over cream knits, denim and winter neutrals, and it carries a story people love to hear. It also makes a gift that feels meaningful, for the person who loves the woods, the earth, or an object with a long and ancient past.

The Process

Each piece begins as raw metal — silver, brass, gold — shaped slowly by hand, sawn into delicate botanical lines that echo late summer's last bloom and autumn's first crisp edge. Real leaves, ferns, and hydrangeas are pressed directly into the metal, leaving behind the exact impression of something that once grew wild. Gemstones catch the same seasonal hues — floral pinks, mossy greens, the deep amber of turning leaves — set one at a time, each piece entirely its own. Made to be worn close, lived in, and carried through every season that shaped it.
