Hornitos Poppy Jasper Necklace | Purple Garnet Saucer Beads | Suspended Gemstone Pendant | One of a Kind | Handmade Sterling Silver
A field of poppies, kept in stone.
This Hornitos poppy jasper takes its name from the patterns that bloom across its surface, round and floral markings scattered like poppies across a California hillside. Here they glow in purples and reds against soft cream, a palette that feels like wine, petals and candlelight. Poppy jasper is found near Hornitos, California, and no two stones are marked alike.
I made a cradle for it by hand. Small tubes are soldered around the bottom half of the stone, and the sterling silver chain is threaded through them, so the jasper hangs from the chain itself, held in place without a bail. Beneath the stone, a row of purple garnet saucer beads is threaded along the chain, their deep, wine-dark purple echoing the color in the jasper. Freshwater pearls are threaded along the chain as well, adding a soft, creamy glow. Nothing is cast and nothing is premade. Because every poppy jasper forms its own pattern, this necklace is truly one of a kind, and once it is gone, there is no other like it.
It is a bold, colorful piece that looks lovely over cream knits, denim and winter neutrals, and it is special enough for a holiday table. It also makes a gift that feels personal, for someone who loves natural stone, deep color and jewelry with a handmade, organic feel.

Sterling silver, Gold, and Jeweler's Brass
Brass Pieces will develop a deep gold patina over time. Sterling silver will develop a black patina. To remove this you can use a jewelry polishing cloth like Sunshine Polishing cloths.
Gold pieces may be cleaned with a soft cotton cloth only - we do not recommend cleaning with commercial cleaners.
Storage
Keeping your jewelry away from moisture and storing it in a cool dry place will slow the tarnishing process. Your jewelry came with a 1' anti- tarnish tab. You can use this in your jewelry box to help absorb moisture.
Gemstones
The use of commercial products is not recommended for cleaning any of the gemstones in the Athena Bandit jewelry collection. You may clean stones using a soft cloth and mild, lukewarm soapy water. Some stones, such as Coral, Spiny Oyster Shell, Opals, Jade, Turquoise, and Pearls are delicate and should be cleaned using a soft cloth only. Using any products on these stones may harm them.
The Beauty of Metal + Stone
Every stone in this collection is its own small world. Some hold a misty shoreline, pale blue and drifting, as if the tide had just pulled away. Others glow like a canyon at dusk, a field of wildflowers, or a forest floor in deep green and shadow. Look closely and you’ll find clouds, ripples, lace, constellations and weather, all formed slowly in the earth over millions of years. Each stone is chosen for its color, its pattern and its quiet beauty, and no two are ever alike. These are one-of-a-kind pieces, and once a favorite finds its home, there is no other like it.
